Erik Binder is a great mystifying wizard who likes to draw his helpless viewers into his artistic games. His creations are extremely diverse (from digital manipulations, through multimedia objects and set-ups, all the way to paint-sprayed canvases and skateboards… his most recent role is the one of an “art lab” gallery artist). His art work “can be recognized by its characteristic humour, at times even childish uncurbed playfulness, by its recycled material, but also ideas, as well as by its combined subculture influences (comics, graffiti, hip-hop, global criticism, eco, socialistic or even kung-fu)”.
“Binder’s work is typified by his full scale approach to his creation as well as his sincere dealing with visual memory and visual messages, as well as the history of art.” It all results in “mixed” artefacts and media, into which his life style, music and family are included. The whole of its entirety is called Kunst fu project, or Kunst fa artistic arrangement (or something else…) It is exactly this anarchic sincerity of his creation process that allows him “to do a lot of things while creating a lot of mess at the same time”, and that is what makes him such an authentic and unique artist in the Slovak art scene.
In the years 2002 and 2007 he was a finalist of Oskar Cepan’s Award
