Andrea (Andy) Bartosova is a nice creature (as a painter and as a human being). Her persistent artistic experimenting and significant shifts in her own creation (which are so typical for her) originate somewhere in her pleasure of discovering and “grasping” her own favorite themes from daily real life – as well as in her essential fascination by the transformational abilities of painting. “A. Bartosova has an admirable facility of expression and impetuosity that are immediately translated into gestures and colours used in drawing and painting.” “The ratio of filled in and blank planes is very important: the areas that separate one area from another and make them more comprehensible in the process.”

“Painting is a narrative process. It is not the topic and the title that are important; the narration itself, and the theme are often “an opportunity to artistic creation of painting – which is a physical activity.” (zJO)

Before fully entering the media of painting, she went through stages of space geometry, restoration and interference with reality (offset painting, hyper-realistic bases), and its direct utilization (templates, patterns of different trifles). A series of auto-portraits was followed by her interest in expressive abilities of human face, after which Bartosova’ s theme line shifted to poly-figurative compositions- anonymous stationary figures, and after that, to groups of dynamic and active statuettes. Even though her paintings changed their geometrical formation, they never lost their expressive power and their own hidden narrative capacity. Although the artist, in her own words, is trying to avoid narration, we can spot a similar vague emotionality, or story telling capacity in her paintings with “soft” architectural or technical details.
